“The information is given in real time for the beaches of the seven coastal towns of the Pays Royannais”, sums up Marie Bascle, the vice-president of the Agglomeration of Royan, responsible – among other things – for monitoring bathing areas.
After a year of internal development, this community has just launched a new online service accessible from a computer or smartphone, via a QR Code or an Internet address (plages.agglo-royan.fr).

This application allows you to know at any time the color of the bathing flags hoisted in each of the 22 developed and supervised areas of the territory.
It also specifies the location of the 22 lifeguard stations and their surveillance times – from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. – as well as the weather forecast, water and air temperatures, tide times and coefficients and plans. of these different beaches.
“This tool is intended to anticipate trips to the beach by providing useful information.
This also makes it possible to better identify the areas monitored by the firefighters, while broadcasting prevention messages, ”says the Agglomeration, which is already planning to expand this service in the years to come.
The bathing conditions – which determine the color of the flags – are informed directly by the various aid stations and are accessible from 11 a.m. each day.
In the Pays Royannais, 135 rescue swimmers trained by the Charente-Maritime firefighters are mobilized until August 28 to carry out this surveillance mission.
