Scandal in the Olympic Park: When visiting the memorial sites for the terrorist attack on the Israeli national team, there was a police operation.
Munich – Unfortunately, in addition to all the good news and beautiful pictures, there was some very bitter news at the European Championships.
As reported by the Munich police, an employee of the security service is said to have shown a National Socialist gesture in the direction of an Israeli delegation.
Fortunately, a police officer was there and arrested the young man.
Scandal in the Olympic Park: man shows Israeli delegation Hitler salute
On Tuesday evening around 7:20 p.m., the delegation of officials and athletes was out and about in the Olympic Park.
They were identifiable as Israelis by their clothing.
Accompanied by police officers and representatives of the organizers, they visited the various memorials in the park for the terrorist attack on the Israeli national team at the 1972 Olympic Games.
Just as they were on their way from the Wailing Beam to the Einschnitt memorial, they passed the Hanns-Braun Bridge.
Four employees of a private security service from Berlin were deployed there.
When the 16 members of the delegation passed the area, a 19-year-old from Berlin gave the forbidden "Hitler salute".
According to the current status of the police investigation, this was not noticed by the officials and athletes.
Police arrest man immediately
An officer deployed there noticed the act and immediately arrested the young man.
The personal details of the three other members of the security service were also recorded.
The organizer excluded all four from all other events of the European Championships on Tuesday evening.
The 19-year-old was reported.
So far there is no police information about him.
Particularly explosive: September 5 marks the 50th anniversary of the Olympic assassination.
The decades-long dispute over compensation and lack of apologies escalated in advance.
That is why the relatives of the victims do not want to take part in the central commemoration event.
