With the high temperatures in the summer, the Jayroud Salt Salt in the eastern Qalamoun in Damascus countryside turns into a holiday destination frequented by the people of the area at night to escape the intense heat and to enjoy its cool, refreshing weather and the gentle breezes on its white sands.
At a time when temperatures touch high rates during the day, the Jayroud Salt Salt, adjacent to the borders of the Syrian Badia, maintains its cold weather at night due to its high humidity, which makes it a preferred destination for the majority of families and families to spend their night in a spacious, cool and refreshing space.
Ola, a housewife, sat with her family and talked about the magical night atmosphere. She told SANA reporter: “Here we find comfort and breathing space and enjoy with the parents the refreshing night atmosphere away from the high weather in the homes,” adding, “Here the children soak in the sand, or the so-called sand bath, and eat the dishes prepared beforehand.” their mothers with all their appetite.”
Young Ola explained that the parents prefer to escape to nature with their children, and they are reassured that there are no harmful insects or reptiles such as snakes and scorpions due to the salinity of the land that limits their presence.
As the water recedes during the summer, the area is covered with crystalline salt beads that sparkle with the lights, transforming its flat area into sandy playgrounds of all kinds for children and families, in addition to gatherings to listen to traditional songs and popular Dabkeh parties.
Jarir Bakr, a resident of the area, used to spend the summer weekend nights in the salty with his friends. He said: “Today, the saltwater has become the only outlet for the people of the area in light of the high temperature. It is like a natural air conditioner or a refrigerator that preserves the vitality and freshness of the things inside due to its coldness at night.”
Bakr, the young man who is busy preparing food with his friends, pointed out that many young people prefer to go out to the salt pan to organize barbecue sessions in the traditional way, where the fire is lit in a small hole until it becomes embers. Delicious meat whose taste is known only to the one who eats it on a summer evening when the stars are his only friend.
Engineer Hussein Rakan explained that the Jyroud Saltwater Salt Lake was transformed due to drought and lack of rain into a seasonal lake that expands and contracts according to the amount of rain and torrential rains. Al-Taus, where the white sand dunes are in a unique view and terrain that you can only find in the eastern Qalamoun region.
Eng. Rakan pointed out the necessity of giving the salt water the required importance as a natural reserve, taking into account that the investment projects in it do not negatively reflect on its vital distinction and uniqueness in terms of terrain and environment in order to remain a natural outlet for the people of the region and its visitors.
