The Russian Ministry of Defense reported today that MiG-31s equipped with airborne Kinzhal missile systems will be on combat alert around the clock at the Chkalovsk airport.
The Russian TASS news agency quoted the ministry as saying in a statement that three MiG-31 combat aircraft carrying hypersonic Kinzhal missiles were redeployed at the Chkalovsk airport in the Kaliningrad region as part of additional strategic deterrence measures.
She added that during the flight, the MiG-31 trained in interoperability with combat aircraft of the Sixth Air Force, the Air Defense Army and aircraft of the Naval Aviation of the Baltic Fleet.
The Kinzhal missile systems have been on combat alert with the Russian Armed Forces since December 2017.
It is noteworthy that the Kinzhal is a hypersonic missile that is 10 times the speed of sound and has a range of up to 2,000 km. It has a high maneuverability and can pass any air and missile defense system in the world.
