Opinion The official rule camp Israel today

2022-08-18T12:42:14.138Z

It is precisely those who have spent their entire adult lives in the military system who may have difficulty dealing with it.

For a person, there is no reason even for those who have no intention of voting for the "state camp" not to welcome the entry of a worthy person like former Chief of Staff Gadi Eisenkot into the political system.

But before filling all the first ranks of the Knesset with former generals, it is worth noting that one of the most serious problems that the State of Israel is facing is a problem that those who have spent their entire adult lives in the military system may have difficulty dealing with.

This problem is called the rule of the officials.

"And all the babies became people and again on the hill they built a house" - the clerks took care of "Table 2 TMA 35" which limits Jewish construction, therefore this line is only true for Arab settlements!

Hear a story: almost 20 years ago I happened to wait outside the room of a senior official in a government office.

The screams from the room reached my ears, and I immediately understood what I was hearing: the senior official was busy gathering the necessary support for the secession plan and was efficient and determined - "What?! He opposes secession?! I'll show him what it is! Remind him who arranged for him to be a post office director!"

This is how, with the "hand washes hand" method, Jewish farmers were displaced from their land.

With all the shock I felt at the time, and with all the wisdom after the fact that proved that the disengagement was indeed a tragedy, that official was still a good official, because he at least promoted the policy of his minister.

Gideon Sa'ar, Benny Gantz and Gadi Eisenkot sign the agreement,

Nowadays, the tenure of a senior official in a government office is immeasurably longer than that of the minister in charge of him, and accordingly - his professional understanding of the ministry's field of activity and his ability to turn the internal cogs of the system are greater. Indeed, in the most important areas of our lives, officials, not elected officials, They are the ones holding the reins. To understand the seriousness of the situation, one does not need the controversial example of the prosecutor's office. Let's go for the consensus - the continuity of Jewish settlement in Israel, the simple act that every Zionist government is supposed to take care of. This is how my mother, the late Naomi Shemer, described the This simple action in the beautiful poem "The Eucalyptus Grove": "And all the babies became people and again on the hill they built a house."

Simple and beautiful, right?

So that's it - as of today, through regulations with the complicated name "Table 2 TMA 35", the clerks in the Ministry of the Interior made sure that this line was only true for Arab settlements! A Jewish settlement is limited to 400 families - there is no such limit for an Arab settlement.

The size limit causes an increase in the price of land in Jewish communities ten times the size of Arab communities, which are also not obliged by acceptance committees to allocate the land with the encouragement of the state to continuing children.

The Jewish rural settlements become nursing homes, while among the Arabs the babies grow up, become people and build a house again on the hill.

Minister of the Interior Shaked reacted this way when she realized what the bureaucracy had wrought in her office for years: "I was struck by a painful token. The governments of Israel and the Supreme Court, with a tongs movement, suffocated the working settlement and the countryside." But despite her efforts, will she succeed in her short tenure in changing the situation? We'll see no

Now think about what tools someone who comes from a hierarchical system like the IDF has to deal with skilled officials who don't take orders from anyone, and decide for yourself how many former chiefs of staff you want to see in the party you choose.
