Education Minister Yifat Shasha-Biton attacked the Ministry of Finance this evening (Thursday), in the shadow of threats to shut down the education system on September 1.

According to her, "Despite my efforts in recent months, the extensive compromises and agreements I have reached with the teachers' organizations, I see time and time again that the officials of the Ministry of Finance are not interested in reaching a real solution and are not interested in agreements. The Ministry of Finance is indifferent to the danger that the school year will not open."

The Minister of Education appealed to Prime Minister Yair Lapid and demanded an emergency discussion in the government this coming Sunday, following the crisis.

"It goes without saying that the proper functioning of the education system, as well as the possibility of a strike at the beginning of the school year, widely affect the entire Israeli economy," Shasha-Biton wrote.

"Therefore - I will ask to convene an emergency discussion of the government this coming Sunday, even during the government recess, to find a solution to the education crisis and a successful opening of the school year. We should not allow Israeli students further uncertainty on the night of August 31st."

"The finance authorities are indifferent."

Earlier today, the Minister of Education attacked the Ministry of Finance and said that in the last year she, together with the chairman of the local government center, "are trying to get out of the box and give creative solutions" to the crisis, "we have reached agreements with the teachers' organization", and added that "we are waiting for the agreement of the finance, Hopefully this will be behind us." She called "Being mobilized to bring a wage agreement before September 1, it is impossible to continue with the dynamic of straining the nerves of the entire State of Israel.

The children go to bed on August 31st and do not know if they will wake up to the opening system.

Parents deserve more peace and certainty."

Shasha-Biton noted that last night she met with Finance Minister Avigdor Lieberman and the Prime Minister, and that today the director general of the ministry and the salary commissioner sat down to reach agreements.

"That we can come up with an agreement that will allow us to look at the teachers and say that we did the best for them," she said, "We don't want a Band-Aid."

The Ministry of Finance stated that the meeting was not held in a businesslike spirit and no progress was made, and that the teams will continue to meet next week as well.

The Ministry of Finance also responded to the words of Shasha Biton and Ben David and stated that "while the negotiation team of the Ministry of Finance is in the meeting rooms with the professional teams of the two - we do not understand the unfounded statement that we are not interested in reaching a salary agreement."

They also added that "in the absence of substantive answers to the detailed and clear proposal put forward by the Ministry of Finance, it is probably easier to attack with pointless and baseless claims."

According to the Ministry of Finance's proposal, a beginning teacher will receive NIS 9,000 per month, before additions to positions, while the most senior teachers will receive a NIS 400 raise.

The Secretary General of the Teachers' Union made it clear that she would not accept it, mainly because of what she said was a low increase for veterans.
