The suspicion: a loose dog tore the animal.

Markt Schwaben – The young storks in Markt Schwaben are in danger, according to a report from the Markt Schwaben town hall.

After eight years there is finally a young stork in the Schwabener Horst market.

In 2014 there was a massive disturbance at the eyrie, causing the birds to abandon their nests.

Finally a pair of storks was so steadfast, defending the eyrie against other storks.

Not only the kindergarten children were happy about the young bird, on the roof of which the large migratory birds are at home, the young stork was good news throughout Markt Schwaben.

One day after the stork expert Richard Straub from the state association for bird protection had photographed the young bird, a call came from the Markt Schwaben regulatory office that a dead stork was lying in the moss.

The Schabener Moos is a feeding habitat for the pair of storks in Siggenhofen, Forstinning and also for the Swabians.

So there was great tension as to which stork it would be that died in the Schwabener Moos.

The dead animal comes from Switzerland

Tragically, a breeding stork has been missing in Siggenhofen for a few weeks, which means that the young have died and only the remaining partner can be seen sporadically in the eyrie.

So if the remaining stork had been the victim, the population in Siggenhofen would have virtually disappeared.

But it could also have been a stork from Forstinning, where one of two young storks still lives.

The same concern applied to the Swabian storks.

However, based on the ringing, it turned out that it was a migrating stork from Switzerland and that the surrounding stork nests were not affected by the accident.

However, the two employees of the public order office immediately recognized the lacerations around the chest area.

So the suspicion is very close that a free-roaming dog, or rather its owner, is responsible for the death of the bird, according to the assumption from the town hall.

This year fawns and a pheasant have already been killed in the moss.

Information boards and flyers point visitors and walkers to the rules of conduct, but according to the town hall, these are not observed enough.

The State Association for the Protection of Birds, as well as the municipality of Markt Schwaben, are asking visitors once again to

please adhere to the "visiting rules" and, above all, keep the dogs on a leash.

The LBV would like to file a complaint and asks for appropriate observations.
