The Berlin Greens are moving away from their district mayor in Mitte, Stephan von Dassel.
The politician is accused of improperly intervening in a process to fill an important post in the district administration.
The Greens state association now backed the decision of the Greens faction in the district parliament, which had asked von Dassel to resign and otherwise held out the prospect of a motion to be voted out.
Berlin - "We think these decisions are correct and assume that they will be followed and that a speedy schedule will be presented," said a spokesman for the state party on Thursday.
"In addition, there must be a complete clarification of the process." First, the "Tagesspiegel" reported on the new development.
The Green von Dassel is said to have tried to dissuade an applicant who was unsuccessful in filling the position from complaining about the decision with the help of a payment of money.
The district mayor denied a private money offer, but also acknowledged mistakes.
