The Minister of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform, Eng. Muhammad Hassan Qatana, stressed the importance of searching for a mechanism that regulates production and marketing operations to counter the effects of the economic sanctions imposed on the Syrian people and to develop a plan of action according to the possibilities to support the agricultural sector, both plant and animal.
In his speech during the first agricultural forum in Quneitra in the service district in the city of Al-Baath, Minister Qatna pointed to what he called dissatisfaction with the implementation of the agricultural plan and the lack of feasibility of the quantities produced of wheat and barley relative to the areas specified for this season, indicating that the numbers and production estimates submitted to the Ministry do not match reality. It calls for checking and finding the location of the error and addressing it.
The Minister of Agriculture focused on the lack of human resources and workers and the need to establish a new work mechanism in agricultural centers and extension units to improve performance and invest cadres to increase production.
With regard to the regulation of the irrigation process, the minister stressed the need for the owners of the wells to take the initiative to license their wells. He also talked about a case of failure to secure the rationed fodder for the breeders for the last fodder cycle, as they received only 40% of their allocations, with the need to monitor the rationed fodder and its quality and to organize the work of Al Baraka Agricultural Company in this regard. .
The minister had called, during his tour of the Khan Arnabeh feed center, the gathering of hope, the fields of summer vegetable cultivation in the village of Ain al-Nourieh, and the apple farms in the town of Hadar, for the establishment of a complex to complete all stages of agricultural work in the governorate.
Engineer Qatna listened to farmers' demands about securing fodder, preserving forest wealth, securing fertilizer, increasing the quantities of diesel for irrigation, building more agricultural roads, helping farmers to market their production through the Syrian Trade Corporation, forming a committee to determine the price of broilers, increasing the land reclamation plan, and finding a water source for irrigation in Jokhdar area and the expansion of the irrigation network of the Kodna dam.
In turn, the Governor of Quneitra, Engineer Moataz Abu Al-Nasr Jamran, explained that work will be done to maintain agricultural roads and to secure diesel for fodder transport mechanisms, requesting the Water Resources Directorate to dig a well to save the seasons of farmers in the Jokhdar area.
Director of the Feed Establishment in Quneitra, Engineer Waheed Al-Saadiya, indicated that the quantities of fodder distributed in the governorate from the Khan Arnabah and Al-Qusaiba centers amounted to about 6500 tons of yellow corn, soy and bran, which was ready for dairy cows during the first half of the year.
Meanwhile, Dr. Ahmed Hammoud, Director of Animal Production at the Ministry of Agriculture, spoke about the problem of artificial vaccination for cows and its impact on the low rates of vaccination, pointing out that work is underway to solve this problem.
Dr. Ahmed Diab, Director of Agricultural Economics, indicated that steps have been taken to activate the Al Baraka Agricultural Production Company and enter it into the production market at present, in addition to following up on the pricing of broilers according to cost and giving a profit margin of 15 percent to breeders.
