Parents of children in the education system have been seeing the battles surrounding the teachers' salary agreement for the past few weeks, and are beginning to lose hope that the school year will start as a series.

The prominent voice heard on the issue is the one led by the national leadership of parents - teachers deserve better conditions, but not at the price of a strike.

Alongside them, there are also those who are actually ready to support the struggle, even if the consequences are that the children will stay at home.

"Let them say there is a strike on September 1, but let them say now, that we know how to prepare," asks Tal Litani, a mother of three daughters from Ra'anana.

"I think that putting the children and parents as a bargaining chip and using force against them is a disgrace. It's not fair to anyone. The children are waiting for the school year, it's an important part of their development. After two months of vacation in which we had to find an arrangement for the children, which cost a lot of money and vacation days , to go again into the unknown, into a life of uncertainty, mentally hurts everyone."

She clarifies: "There is no doubt that teachers' wages should rise, but it cannot come at the expense of parents and children. Each side should do the extra and reach a compromise."

"Teachers need to be rewarded properly," agrees Anat Keter, mother of a student entering the 11th grade at Adam Va Adama High School in Hatzeva.

As soon as the principal has autonomy, he will strive for excellence, and then excellent and committed teachers will arrive, and above all, happy and proud of their workplace, and as a result, parents will want their children to study at this school." According to her, "I don't go into the numbers, but I feel that education is being pushed into a corner more and more every year." .

Mali Bitzur Farnes, a mother of two children who have hope, heard about the Ministry of Finance's proposal presented by Minister Avigdor Lieberman, and understands the opposition.

"She doesn't take care of the old teachers, who are essential, and she doesn't take care of the growing problem in this field over time. The proposal will not attract the young audience," she claims.

"I think that the teachers and the parents have to fight. We have to look strategically ahead, think about the next generation. There is a strategic root problem that has been ignored for the past year. The parents have to support the factors of our children's future."

Education Minister Yifat Shasha Biton today called on parents to join forces with the teachers in the struggle, and not to go against them.

"The feeling is that there are factors that try to drive a wedge between parents and teachers. This is an intolerable reality, that parents will see teachers as their enemy and vice versa. We are not each other's enemies. We all have the same interest," she emphasized at a conference of the local government center.

The national parent leadership reacted sharply.

"A statement like the one made by the Minister of Education is a dangerous, incorrect statement and incites the discussion down paths that lead nowhere," they attacked.

"The parents of Israel and the national leadership of the parents value the teachers of Israel and do not see them as enemies," they added, but clarified that they are interested in "seeing the parties reach agreements and immediately stop taking our children and us parents as hostages."

According to the Ministry of Finance's proposal, a beginning teacher will receive NIS 9,000 per month, before additions to positions, while the most senior teachers will receive a NIS 400 raise.

The Secretary General of the Teachers' Union made it clear that she would not accept it, mainly because of what she said was the low increase for veterans. .
