kyiv and Moscow continue to blame each other for the strikes that have hit the Zaporizhia power plant in recent days.

Difficult to have confirmed information on the subject.

This Thursday, the Russian army assured that it had not deployed "heavy weapons" in the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant, under Moscow control and recently hit by strikes.

“We emphasize that the Russian troops do not have heavy weapons in the compound of the plant and in the surrounding areas.

Only units providing security are there,” the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement.

"The Russian armed forces are taking all necessary measures to ensure the safety of the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant," the ministry continued.

He also accuses kyiv of wanting to prepare this Thursday "a resounding provocation" on the spot during the visit to Ukraine of the Secretary General of the UN, Antonio Guterres.

According to Moscow, Ukrainian artillery units plan to fire on the plant and then accuse Russia of causing a nuclear accident.

kyiv and Moscow accuse each other

Since the end of July, Russia and Ukraine have rejected responsibility for several strikes that hit the nuclear power plant in Zaporijjia, the largest in Europe, raising fears of a catastrophe.

kyiv notably accuses Moscow of storing heavy weapons in the plant and using it as a firing base on Ukrainian positions, which Russia denies.

The Zaporijjia nuclear power plant was taken in early March by Russian troops, at the start of their offensive against Ukraine launched on February 24.

To guarantee the security of the site and allow an inspection mission, Antonio Guterres and the United States called last Thursday for the establishment of a demilitarized zone around the plant.

For his part, the Secretary General of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, considered on Wednesday "urgent" that an "inspection" of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) take place on the spot.
