Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova described the preparations by the Kyiv regime to carry out provocations at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant during the visit of UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to Ukraine as nuclear blackmail for the whole of Europe.
"This is not just an ordinary provocation ... it is a condemned nuclear provocation, and it is a continuation of the Kyiv regime's threats to the nuclear plant," TASS news agency quoted Zakharova as saying during her intervention on the Solovyov Live program.
Zakharova explained that Kyiv is blackmailing in this way not only one country or a particular political entity, but the entire European continent, noting that the talk here is about "nuclear energy and the whole European continent is being held hostage because all of this is located in the center of Europe."
Zakharova stressed that the dangers of such actions are unpredictable, and that their consequences, in addition to the geographical spread, temporal closure for decades of radioactive contaminated areas, which humanity has learned in accidents such as Chernobyl and Fukushima.
The Russian Defense Ministry had announced earlier that the Kyiv regime was preparing to carry out a provocation at the nuclear power plant in Zaporozhye during Guterres' visit to Ukraine to accuse Russia of this. Territorial No. 108, Artillery Brigade No. 44 and military units stationed in the Zaporozhye region conduct training on procedures in conditions of radioactive contamination of the region.
