The turbine from Siemens Energy is still waiting in Mülheim to be used for the Nord Stream 1 gas pipeline. The company has now sparked a shitstorm with a controversial tweet.

Mülheim – After the visit of Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) two weeks ago, the Siemens Energy turbine has gained a certain notoriety.

It was actually supposed to be used for maintenance work on the Nord Stream 1 gas pipeline, but is still sealed and ready for use in Mülheim an der Ruhr, waiting to be transported.

Russia has so far blocked the delivery.

Siemens Energy asks on Twitter for gas turbine playlist suggestions

On Wednesday, Siemens Energy posted a photo of the turbine packaged ready for shipment on Twitter and wrote: “Our famous turbine is still not where it should be.

She stands alone at our location in Mülheim.

Let's do the poor thing a favor and make a Spotify playlist.

What should go in there?

We'll start with "So Lonely" by The Police.

What are your suggestions?”

As a result, Twitter users came up with a host of ideas, including "Boring" by the Doctors, "Alone Alone" by Arctic Circle 18, "Lemon Tree" by Fools Garden, "I'm Still Standing" by Elton John, "Nobody's Child ' by Hank Snow, 'Show Me The Meaning Of Being Lonely' by The Backstreet Boys and more.

"Tasty" and "completely wrong": Criticism of the turbine tweet

But there was also harsh criticism: Media consultant Frank Sarfeld judged on Twitter: "This tweet is in bad taste.

Completely wrong.

It's about people in Ukraine who are dying as a result of Putin's war.

It's about families in Germany who are afraid of the next gas bill.

And Siemens was like: Hey, find us a playlist for the famous turbine.”

Other users find the tweet "disgusting" and "disgraceful".

Another user commented on the short message service that Siemens Energy would "dance tastelessly on the graves of dead Ukrainians".

Another wrote: "Wow, didn't Siemens hire people in the PR department to post such tacky crap on a company account?

You're practically asking for bad press.

How about if a company adheres to sanctions that have been decided on?”

Tim Proll-Gerwe, Head of Press at Siemens,

defended the controversial playlist tweet on Twitter: "The music number is the humorous way of dealing with the fact that the turbine is still in Mülheim (why is known).

But fair enough: If you like the playlist, you take part, everyone else doesn't.

But references like "disgusting" or the death of people?

Quite grotesque."

Russia refuses to supply turbine for Nord Stream 1

The Russian energy company Gazprom has been shutting down its gas supplies via Nord Stream 1 since June, citing the lack of a turbine that creates the pressure to pump the gas together with others.

The turbine had been serviced in Canada, but has been in Germany since mid-July because Russia refused delivery.

Gazprom criticizes the lack of information about the repair of the turbine, Siemens Energy rejects the allegations.

During a visit to Mülheim two weeks ago, Chancellor Scholz said that Russia was using pretexts to limit gas supplies in violation of the contract.

The turbine can be used at any time and can be delivered: "It is obvious that nothing, absolutely nothing, stands in the way of further transport of this turbine and its installation in Russia."
