In 1972, medals were fought in Riem - to this day, equestrian sport is at home in the Olympic facility.

The Munich Riding Academy is celebrating “50 years of the Olympics” with a home tournament.

Lynn always has a bit of glitter in her vest pocket.

With her little hands she sprinkles a pinch of it on the black fur of her pony Peter Pan.

Then it glitters as beautifully as Lynn's helmet.

partner look.

Because that's exactly what the five-year-old's horse is: a partner.

And no toys or sports equipment.

You are quite impressed when you see the little one with the little one at the large riding facility in Munich-Riem.

How firmly she sits in the saddle.

How graceful her posture is.

How accurate their reins.

For the past two years, the now five-year-old has been coming to the stable with her dad right after daycare.

Day after day.

In wind and weather.

Completely voluntary?

Completely voluntary.

Clean hooves, brush mane and tail, groom fur.

"It's all part of equestrian sport.

It's great to see how children learn

Eichler is chairwoman of the Munich Riding Academy association, of which Lynn is the youngest member.

Next weekend the girl will also be the youngest starter at the home tournament.

Because then the club will celebrate an anniversary: it has been at home here in Riem for 50 years.

Since 1972. Wait a minute, there was still something in town.

Exactly: As is currently being reminded on every corner of Munich, the Olympic Games were being held back then.

The equestrian center where Lynn and her club mates ride across the paddock today is one of the Olympic sites that is still being used as intended 50 years later.

The Munich Riding Academy, which had been founded 14 years earlier, played an active role in the return of equestrian sports to Riem after the Olympic Games and has since been one of the residents of the facility alongside institutions such as the Bavarian Riding and Driving Association and the Bavarian Horse Breeders' Association.

You could also say: They are the ones who bring life to the place.

The association has around 500 members, around 100 private horses are housed here in the stables.

And they can use this spacious riding facility in the middle of the big city.

You only have to drive across the site in a jeep with Eichler and her board colleague Maggie Walter to realize: a dream for every horse lover.

“This easy accessibility is a blessing, especially for young people.

Which riding stables do you get to by public transport?

And then have such an area with a stream, paddocks, obstacle course and everything else you need for riding.

We have the bus and the S-Bahn right in front of the door.

That is an absolutely unique selling point,” emphasizes Walter.

The second is the cost.

Because the company is run on a voluntary basis

you can keep it as low as possible, 620 euros per month per horse.

Feeding, manure, court and hall maintenance included.

In other stables you put 700 to 800 euros on the table.

Now, 620 euros doesn't exactly sound like a cheap hobby like darts or Schafkopf.

But the management of the association also attaches great importance to this: that people from all social classes have the opportunity to take part.

Regardless of age or financial background.

“We have many who join together for riding participations and share the costs.

Or members make their horses available to other riders free of charge,” says Walter.

The idea of the club is held up here.

Because riding doesn't have to be an elitist sport, as is often conveyed.

Their success proves them right: there are probably only very few clubs nationwide that can boast so many active riders at three-star tournament level in dressage and show jumping.

“We also offer hippo therapy for people with physical or mental disabilities.

We provide suitable horses free of charge.

Otherwise we are really mixed.

Whole families ride together here: from the grandmother who is over 80 to the 14-year-old granddaughter.”

Just as Walter says this, an elderly lady is riding across the sand court on her horse.

She is 79 years old.

And has a body tension that makes you ponder as a non-rider a few decades younger.

Shouldn't you try it once?

The women on the board do not miss this.

“With equestrian sports, you are not only doing something good for your body.

They learn respect for fellow creatures, consideration, tolerance, responsibility.

And that special bond with an animal.

You communicate with the horse via the buttocks, the legs, the hands.

Until you become one with him.

In the end, you just think about what you want to do – and that will then magically be transferred to your animal.”

Just like Lynn and Peter Pan.

They're doing their rounds in the small hall.

“Shall we go galloping again?” the girl calls out to her dad, who is always close to her when riding to be on the safe side.

But hello.

Horse and rider chase in a circle at a brisk pace.

Peter Pan's fur is glistening, Lynn's face is beaming.

And everyone who sees the two feels that what Carola Eichler said is true: "When children ride horses, they don't take drugs." Happiness on earth?

Located in the east of Munich.

On velvety backs that delight.

The anniversary will be celebrated from August 19th to 21st: All information at www.olympiareitanlage.de.
