Daraa City Council has begun implementing a plan to light the main streets and maintain roads and streets that were damaged by terrorism during the years of war on Syria.

The head of Daraa City Council, Eng. Amin Al-Omari, explained in a statement to SANA reporter that this plan includes lighting the commercial markets with solar energy and maintaining main streets, especially Hanano and Al-Quwatli streets, in addition to the government complex road up to the Post Roundabout and Khirbet Ghazala Roundabout.

Al-Omari indicated that the funding for road maintenance comes from the city council budget and is implemented by the private sector, while the council is partnering with international organizations working in Daraa to light some streets with alternative energy.

Al-Omari explained that the city council’s workshops began planning the streets, main axes and entrances to the city, with the establishment of special lanes for pedestrians to secure traffic safety with the aim of restoring the aesthetic of the city and facilitating the movement of people and vehicles within the streets and squares of Daraa, including entrances, roundabouts, bumps and pedestrian paths.

Daraa City Council had accomplished in an earlier stage, in cooperation with international organizations, the lighting of residential neighborhoods with solar energy and linking these neighborhoods with each other.
