The drought is causing problems in Franconia in particular.
A Franconian drinking water supplier is therefore increasing its prices significantly.
These regions are affected.
Erlangen – One heat wave follows the next.
Nature in Bavaria is having a hard time with the dryness and drought.
The first districts reacted to the lack of water with bans, the city of Nuremberg is currently watering its trees with swimming pool water.
Now a Franconian drinking water supplier, Fernwasserversorgung Franken (FWF), is also taking action.
Tap water is getting more expensive.
Water in Franconia is becoming scarce: companies raise drinking water prices
"Security of supply and quality have their price", with these words the company begins its price increase announcement.
The increasing demands allowed nothing other than an increase in water tariffs.
For tariff customers in the FWF association area, the rate will increase to EUR 1.35/m³ from January 1, 2023. Parts of the city of Erlangen, the districts of Ansbach, Erlangen-Höchststadt, Neustadt ad Aisch-Bad Windsheim and Kitzingen are affected .
The summers of the last few years have shown how important an efficient drinking water supply is.
"But the summer half of 2022 puts many things in the shade again." The persistent drought and high air temperatures caused demand to increase, and the need for security of supply is great.
"The emerging climate change thus represents a major challenge for the FWF."

"Water stress and water scarcity" are challenges of the future
The impact requires a change in the water pricing system.
The FWF therefore intends to adjust its price policy in the future.
"Water stress and water scarcity due to climate change and man-made influences on raw water are challenging tasks for the future." The company is one of the top 5 Bavarian water supply companies and supplies 650 transfer points to cities and communities.
