The European Championships road race features some top female athletes.

The competition takes place on Sunday, August 21st, through the district of Weilheim-Schongau.

District – For some this should be a reason to be happy, others probably see it with concern: On Sunday, August 21st, the women's European Championships road race will take place in the district.

Means: high-level sport, but also road closures and stopping bans.

Because the women who fight for the title of European champion drive an average of 36 to 40 kilometers per hour.

Most recently, at the Tour de France Femmes, the average speed – calculated over all eight stages – was 38.4 km/h, for example.

Nobody can stand in the way.

"We want to keep the restrictions as low as possible," says Manuel Deutschmeyer, spokesman for the European Championships in Munich.

Nevertheless, no stopping signs must be erected in some places.

In addition, the passages are closed 15 to 30 minutes before the cyclists pass through, “so that the streets are absolutely free”.

After 40 minutes at the latest, everything should be over at the blocked area.

The street is blocked off 15 to 30 minutes before the cyclists pass through, after 40 minutes at the latest everything should be over at the blocked area.

"Our goal is to show Upper Bavaria in all its glory," says Deutschmeyer about the route.

The race starts at 11:40 a.m. in Landsberg.

The women then come via Dießen to Fischen, Pähl, Wielenbach, Wilzhofen, Haunshofen, Jenhausen and Seeshaupt before they leave Weilheim-Schongau again and finally reach the finish line at Munich's Odeonsplatz after almost 130 kilometers.

The places approached were involved in very different ways in advance, says Deutschmeyer.

As can be learned from Wielenbach, the community was presented with the finished plan.

It was different in Pähl: "We wanted to drive around the village on the state road, but the mayor asked us to drive through the village," reports Deutschmeyer.

The route was adjusted and now runs along Ammerseestrasse and Wielenbacher Strasse.

Seeshaupt is also crossed.

Mayor Friedrich Egold reports that he was asked about the Pfaffenwinkel tourism association.

He's a bit skeptical: it's a Sunday in the middle of August, the holiday season.

"There's a lot going on here," says Egold.

The police and fire brigade, who regulate traffic for the race, agreed early on how the closures could succeed.

"A lot of blocking material is needed."

By the way:

everything from the region is now also available in our regular Schongau newsletter and our regular Weilheim-Penzberg newsletter.

However, Egold does not expect the race to have a major advertising effect.

“We also have so many tourists there.

Because of the few lakes,” he says and laughs.

But there is also a very active cycling group in town, and the sport is popular.

"It's an event and we're going to do everything we can to support it."

European Championships Road Cycling: Actions in Wielenbach, Haunshofen and Seeshaupt

There are campaigns in some neighboring communities.

In

Wielenbach ,

drinks

are sold by the SV on the Rudolf-Seeberger-Alle

, in

Haunshofen a long human chain

with children and adults is planned.

Visitors should be there in good time because of the closures, they say.

In

Seeshaupt there should be a bike fan mile

on the main street.

Anyone who sends pictures of the leading cyclist to kontakt@adfc-seeshaupt can win something.

After all, there are also some German riders in the field of participants.

For example Lisa Brennauer, Olympic champion and multiple world champion.

Like Liane Lippert, she recently competed in the Tour de France Femmes.

So the race should definitely have some appeal for cycling fans.
