Al-Ittihad Al-Ahly Aleppo team won the Republic Cup Football Championship for the tenth time in its history after beating Al-Wathba 4-3 on penalties after the end of the original and extra time in a negative tie, in the final match of the competition, which was held today at Tishreen Stadium in Damascus, amid a large crowd presence.
Despite the offensive pressure that the match witnessed and the equal opportunities afforded to both teams, and with the effective substitutions made during the two halves, the negative tie prevailed in the original time, so the two teams resorted to extra time.
The performance of the two teams did not change much in the extra halves, but the attacks continued, but without knowing their way to the goal, and these two halves also ended in a tie, so the two teams resorted to penalty kicks, which Al-Ittihad decided in its favour, 4-3.
Al-Ittihad Al-Ahly of Aleppo qualified for the final match at the expense of the Army in the semi-finals, after it drew negatively with it in the second leg of this round, benefiting from the result of a positive tie in the first leg with a goal for each of them.
As for Al Wathba, it qualified after its draw with Tishreen with two goals each in the second leg of the semi-final, taking advantage of the first leg result, which ended with a two-goal victory without a response.
The Jableh team won the championship last year after defeating Hattin on penalties 6-5 after the two teams tied in the original and extra time without goals in the final match that brought them together at Tishreen Stadium.
