The German basketball players have to do without NBA professionals Daniel Theis and Niels Giffey at the Supercup in Hamburg.
Theis is suspended for reasons of load control, as the German Basketball Association announced on Thursday evening.
Giffey is absent this weekend due to a private appointment.
National coach Gordon Herbert therefore nominated two players in Leon Kratter and Gavin Schilling.
Hamburg - "We brought Leon and Gavin back because we have to protect ourselves a bit in the big positions.
If something happens, we have to be prepared,” Herbert explained the decisions.
Nick Weiler-Babb is with the team for the first time.
The Bayern Munich professional, who was only recently naturalized, was absent for family reasons, but joined the team on Thursday.
“Nick trained without contact today as he only arrived two hours before practice.
I'm not sure yet if he will play on Friday, but definitely on Saturday," said Herbert.
The German team meets the Czech Republic this Friday (8.30 p.m. / Magentasport).
On Saturday it's either against Italy or against Serbia.
The Supercup is the first endurance test before the European Championships with a preliminary round in Cologne and the final round in Berlin (September 1st to 18th).
