An unaccompanied hike was fatal to a 49-year-old from Germany in Tyrol.

The search team only found the body in the dark.

Munich – A hiking tour by a German in Tyrol came to a fatal end.

Despite a rescue mission on the advice of the victim's partner, any help came too late.

As reported by the police, the 49-year-old climbed up on Thursday (August 18) around 8 a.m. “alone from the Hintersteiner See car park via the Waller Alm to the Hocheck and further over the west ridge of the Zettenkaiser to the summit”.

Five and a half hours later he was "on the Riegensteig descending again" and had agreed to meet up with his partner at the parking lot.

But when the man from Reutlingen still did not appear there at 7:30 p.m., the woman informed the rescue services.

A large-scale search operation was immediately launched, according to the report, six people from the Scheffau mountain rescue service, ten members of the Kufstein mountain rescue service, three dog handlers from the mountain rescue service, eight task forces from the Kufstein district fire brigade association including a drone, four police dog handlers, and a patrol from the Kufstein police inspection were involved and the alpine police as well as a police helicopter.

After a search of several hours, the rescue workers came across the body of the missing person on the Riegensteig around 11 p.m.

According to initial findings, the Tyrolean police assume that "a larger boulder that the 49-year-old used as a kick or handle could have broken out".

As a result, the man from Baden-Württemberg fell about 25 meters down a steep gully and was "spilled by the boulders that were swept away".

The body was recovered by a police helicopter on Friday morning.
