The latest development plans and mockups of the expansion plans of the Hong Kong Science Museum and the Hong Kong Museum of History have been revealed.
According to the information from the Town Planning Board, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department has applied for a slight relaxation of the building height restrictions and ceiling area restrictions on the Tsim Sha Tsui Science Museum Road site for the expansion of the Hong Kong Science Museum and the Hong Kong Museum of History, involving 3 new buildings, the main building The area is about 358,000 square feet.
The project is expected to be completed in 2030.
The above project involves two sites, including No. 2 Science Museum Road (Site No. 1) and No. 100 Chatham Road South (Site No. 2), with an area of approximately 20,000 and 85,900 square feet respectively.
Among them, Site 1 is proposed to build a 5-storey building, involving about 102,200 square feet, while Site 2 is to build two 5-storey buildings, involving about 256,000 square feet.
The heights of the main roofs of the three new buildings range from 36.25m to 38m, and the upper roofs are 41.75m to 45.8m high.
After the completion of the expansion of the above three new buildings, the total floor area of the entire Hong Kong Science Museum and the Hong Kong Museum of History will increase to 715,100 square feet, involving five buildings.

The applicant for this development proposal is the Cultural Affairs Division - Heritage and Museums Branch of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department.
The applicant pointed out that the building height and superstructure area of the proposed scheme slightly exceeded the limits of the outline zoning plan. Therefore, an application is now made to the Town Planning Board in accordance with Section 16 of the Town Planning Ordinance.
The applicant believes that the slight relaxation of the building height restrictions and the superstructure restrictions will not significantly increase the building volume, nor will it visually affect the surrounding area, and will not adversely affect air circulation.
