Strengthening on the main routes: A CSU working group is discussing new offers for public transport in the Erding district.

Erding

– A strengthening of public transport through express bus lines – this idea has been discussed in the CSU district parliamentary group for some time.

"Where there are many people on the move, I need the right offer," said parliamentary group leader Thomas Bauer at a CSU press conference.

To do this, you have to look at the main lines between Dorfen or Taufkirchen via Erding to the airport.

"We need a refreshment here."

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Erding newsletter.)

The parliamentary group has set up a working group on public transport, which met for the first time at the end of July.

The starting point is the fact that the offer, measured in kilometers driven, increased by 50 percent in the district from 2008 to 2019, while the number of passengers only increased by five percent.

There is a discrepancy between services and demand, explained Bauer.

"We want the offer to be better for the same price and used by as many people as possible." The goal is to achieve greater acceptance of local public transport with the same financial investment.

"It's not about saving money," Bauer affirmed, "but about using the money effectively."

So far, the district has spread its public transport offer as widely as possible in order to serve the rural areas.

"On-demand traffic", i.e. flexible mobility on demand, is the right approach here, explained district administrator and CSU district chairman Martin Bayerstorfer.

In 1995, the district started using on-demand buses in Holzland and introduced call-line taxis from 2003.

However, the usage figures are “depressing”, according to Bayerstorfer.

Improvements can hardly be achieved with better public relations.

"I don't know where we should advertise it anymore," said the district administrator about the demand repeatedly raised in the district council.

That is why the previous approach of connecting as many small stops as possible on a route can no longer be the only right one.

"Through this offer we have a dilution effect," explained Bayerstorfer.

That has its justification.

"But for those who want to go from Dorfen to Erding, the bus is unattractive," said the district administrator.

It currently takes an hour.

The express bus route 512 between Erding and the airport, on the other hand, shows how it's done.

"We want to have that examined," announced Bayerstorfer.

A report in coordination with the MVV and, more importantly, with the bus company will provide a statement.

According to Bayerstorfer, public transport buses drive around five million commercial vehicle kilometers a year.

The operating cost subsidies to be paid by the district have doubled between 2008 and today to around five million euros.

While day-to-day public transport is in the hands of the district, the region is also dependent on financial decisions at federal level when it comes to transport.

"For all projects, a needs plan is currently being reviewed in the Federal Ministry of Transport," reported Member of the Bundestag Andreas Lenz.

"It cannot be ruled out that projects will be canceled from the current requirements plan." That is why the interests of the region must be fought for here.

The explosion in costs on the Munich main route may have an impact.

"We insist that the promised projects are implemented," explained Lenz with regard to Erdinger ring closure and ABS 38 in the rail projects or B 388 local bypasses in the road area.

"The second regular route is essential for us," explained the Bavarian Minister for Family Affairs, Ulrike Scharf, at the press conference.

After all, many commuters come from the surrounding area.

She fears "repercussions on the S-Bahn ring closure".

In the overall financing of the railway tasks, this could possibly affect other projects.

"That must not happen," affirmed the member of parliament.
