Two pilots apparently fell asleep and missed landing during a flight from Sudan to Ethiopia on Monday, according to a CNN report.
The incident happened on an Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737-800 flight from Khartoum to Addis Ababa, according to a report by the Aviation Herald website.
The data from the website showed that the plane was flying at an altitude of 11,000 km on autopilot when it did not land at Addis Ababa Bola International Airport on August 15.
The flight controllers were unable to contact the crew despite trying several times.
However, an alarm was triggered when the plane missed the runway and continued in normal flight, apparently waking up the pilots.
The plane eventually began to land, and 25 minutes later landed safely.
Aircraft tracking system (ADS-B) data showed the plane continuing to fly over the runway, before it began to land.
