Half measures are not his thing: Samuel Graf from Schwabbruck completed his training at the Training, Testing and Specialist Center for Dairy Management in Kempten as the best technician of his year.

Instead of on the mountain pasture in Switzerland, the 24-year-old from Schwabbrucker is now starting his career at his employer Hochland, who has kept a position free for him.

– The patience that the Schongau-based company had for its milk technologist has paid off.

He is back.

Samuel Graf had twice fulfilled his wish to work as a dairyman on an alpine pasture in Switzerland, and Hochland released him twice for this.

The cheese manufacturer had to do without the hard-working young man for the past two years.

He honed his professional career in Kempten and went to school.

Now the 24-year-old is a technician for dairy farming and dairying.

The final grade: 1.2.

None of the other 19 graduates from all over Germany was as good this year.

All celebrated in Schwabbruck

Of course he's proud of his performance, says Samuel Graf, who took a lot more with him from the two years than a good grade.

"The class was great," says the Schwabbrucker, happy about the many new acquaintances.

They all came to Schwabbruck to duly celebrate their degrees with him.

Career jump: Samuel Graf finished the technical school as the best.

The 24-year-old looks just as happy as he did when he returned from the Alm in autumn 2019. He liked his work as a dairyman so much back then that he added another season in the Swiss Alps in 2020.

In the fall of 2020, the farmer went straight to school, where the man from Schwabbruck learned, for example, how to use resources profitably and manage employees.

After the work was done, the Schwabbrucker let his soul dangle on the alpine pasture and enjoyed the fantastic view.

Now Hochland has the 24-year-old back, who of course can start a little higher with his degree: He has risen from skilled worker to planner.

Instead of making cheese himself, the 24-year-old now sits at the computer more often.

"But I'm still wearing the white clothes, I'm very happy about that," says the Schwabbrucker.

"And the working atmosphere is great," he says happily.

Produce your own Tilsiter at home

The 24-year-old wants to indulge his love for his job again in his parents' house in Schwabbruck, where he used to produce his own Tilsiter cheese - with fresh milk from the farmer in Huttenried.
