District – What about local public transport in the district?

The Green Youth wanted to know and tested the offer for a day.

Together with some local politicians and a representative of the Ebersberg energy agency, different routes were driven as part of a public scavenger hunt.

Longer waiting times at the bus stop, the journey itself, short breaks at the station bakery - perfect opportunities to get an overview of the situation with politicians and to have a constructive dialogue about the expansion of "public transport".

In the east of the district, Elias Schröter and Lorenz Möllmann drove the route through the Ebersberg Forest together with the green district councilor Ottilie Eberl and were able to talk to District Administrator Robert Niedergesäß for an hour during a stopover in Ebersberg.

On the second route, Antonia Thewalt, Luisa Horninger and Arian Kunze drove with Inge Heiler (1st mayor of Egmating) and Bianka Poschenrieder (2nd mayor of Zorneding) to Glonn.

Brigitte Freund (3rd mayor of Pliening) and Angelika Bachmann (from the Ebersberg energy agency) accompanied the team on the rest of the route via the S-Bahn to Vaterstetten and the way to Poing.

As it is with the bus traffic, the problems didn't start during the scavenger hunt, but on the journey there.

Antonia and Luisa missed the bus to the starting point Egmating in Glonn, which started without a correct display (company trip) and made it just in time by hitchhiking to the community - the next bus would probably have turned up a long time later.

There were also delays and changes to the plan during the scavenger hunt, so Team 2 missed a connecting bus in Grub and experienced first-hand that the lack of accessibility at the train station causes problems for the disabled or families with prams, for example.

In addition, due to the rather poor connection through the Ebersberg forest, the district administrator was not able to accompany Team 1 for one station as planned, but held his conversation with the group during the longer waiting time in Ebersberg.

All in all, both teams made it to their destination unscathed and with a lot of new input from the communities, the district council and new closed contacts, even if things sometimes didn't go quite according to plan.

The appointment with the district administrator had to be rescheduled.

The reason: the poor connection through the Ebersberger Forest

In Poing, the day ended with a dinner with Mayor Thomas Stark, who took the time to explain his view of public transport.

The strong bus network within Poing was collectively praised: Travelers can arrive at their destination by bus up to midnight.

This undoubtedly increases the quality of life and confidence in local public transport.

Some cities and larger communities could learn something from this!

There is a lot to be done, but there is a will on the part of the youth to work with local politicians to draw more attention to these problems and to advocate for effective, cross-community solutions.

"The willingness to talk of the Ebersberg District Administrator, Robert Niedergesäß, is very positive," writes the Green Youth in a press release.

"He took an hour for the Green Youth Ebersberg, was very hospitable and was willing to talk to them about improvements to public transport."

The municipalities are now asked

If the leap to inexpensive, climate-friendly mobility is to be possible, models like the 9-euro ticket must also be followed by a real improvement in the bus and train network, according to the demand.

And here the municipalities are asked.

The price reduction alone will not regulate the traffic turnaround.

In the opinion of the Green Youth, however, the 9-euro ticket has shown how high the demand for local public transport can be and how the quality of life could improve, for example for socially disadvantaged families.

The district association of the Green Youth would like to stay tuned to the topic in order to give young people a voice in strengthening public transport, according to the Promise.red
