Irschenberg - The digital radio for authorities and organizations with security tasks (BOS) should be available for emergency services.

There are gaps in Irschenberg.

"You will be involved in the process," promised Stefan Klein from the Bavarian State Criminal Police Office (LKA) at the most recent meeting of the Irschenberg municipal council.

It was about BOS digital radio in the municipality, formerly also called Tetra radio.

It does not work seamlessly in the Irschenberg area, which poses a problem for authorities and emergency services such as fire brigades.

Two additional masts are therefore to be erected.

Of course, it has already been determined where it would make the most sense to place them, contact has been made with property owners and initial information has been given to residents.

The LKA has now made representations to the municipal council in order to present the facts as early as possible, as Klein pointed out: "We are at the very beginning of the process, at a very early stage in the search for a location."

A Vodafone mast can be used in Jedling

This is necessary because the police and fire brigade have noticed a clear increase in radio problems in the Irschenberg area, for example in the forest settlement and in Reichersdorf.

So far, the municipal area has been supplied from more distant locations in other municipalities and from Wendelstein.

In order to improve the situation, two locations are planned on the Irschenberger site - one in Jedling for the Leitzachtal and one in Eyrain for the area itself and the area to the east.

One alone is not enough.

Both are necessary for topographical reasons, since the ridge near Eyrain acts like a blockade.

An existing Vodafone mast could possibly be used in Jedling, but it would have to be raised.

A new building is needed in Eyrain: a mast 40 meters high.

An extension tube with a maximum of seven meters can be placed on top of it, so that an antenna fork with two antennas can be installed later for all-round coverage, although this is not necessary at the moment.

Steel lattice mast analogous to electricity pylon

For example, a design as a steel lattice mast could be chosen, analogous to an existing electricity pylon in the vicinity, or concrete.

At the foot of the mast, a technical building would be built, possibly with a gable roof, as optically desired.

A fence might be built, which is sometimes necessary for insurance reasons, Klein explained.

The term for operating the radio mast would only last until January 1, 2030, with an option to extend it by two five-year periods.

"We're going to make it as long as we can," Klein said.

The building is privileged.

If the community and the neighbors agree, the LKA can approve the mast itself.

If approval is not given, the district government must decide.

Locations in Irschenberg, Weyarn and Wörnsmühl

Kathleen Ellmaier (FW Reichersdorf) was surprised that Reichersdorf, where there are problems, is not covered by the masts.

A total of six locations are being implemented as part of an overall measure, the LKA official explained, two in Irschenberg, three in the Weyarn area and one in Wörnsmühl.

How high the radiation exposure is from the BOS digital radio was another question.

"Not worth mentioning compared to mobile communications," explained Klein.

There are fewer carriers, fewer services and fewer users.

Maria Drexl (FW Niklasreuth) wanted to know whether this mast would only be used for official radio.

Klein said that was the landowner's decision.

The masts are planned in such a way that they would also be suitable for mobile communications.

Some communities would even welcome it if several services were in one location.

"Otherwise it can also happen that the mobile operator sets up a new mast 100 meters away."
