Authorities report
"multiple fatalities"
after two small private planes with a total of three people on board collided just as the pilots were approaching landing at Watsonville Airport in Santa Cruz County, California.
The accident alert was issued at 2:56 pm (local time).
Multiple responding agencies arrived at the Watsonville Municipal Airport to address the incident. Watsonville City via Twitter
According to the local press after the collision, a plane hit one of the airport buildings and the other a nearby neighborhood.
No injuries were reported on the ground.
One person was traveling in the single-engine Cessna 152 single-engine plane and two in the twin-engine Cessna 340.
The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the causes of the accident and several local agencies such as the fire department, the Watsonville police and the California highway patrol are also on the scene.
