At least 16 people were killed and 29 injured in a run-over accident in Derik, southeastern Turkey.
Today, Anadolu Agency quoted Health Minister Fahrettin Koca as saying, "Sixteen people were killed and 29 others were injured, including 8 in critical condition, as a result of an accident that occurred after the brakes of a truck that ran over a crowd in Derik, Mardin province, failed."
In turn, Minister of Justice Bekir Bozdag announced the opening of a judicial investigation into the incident, which came after another similar incident today.
And 15 people were killed and 22 others were injured in a similar accident in Gaziantep, where a bus collided with rescue teams that were dealing with a car that had rolled into a slope on the Adana-Gaziantep road.
In 2021, Turkey witnessed about 395,000 traffic accidents, killing 2,245 people, and injuring more than 255,000 others.
