Update from August 20, 9.45 a.m .:

There was another explosion on the Crimean peninsula annexed by Russia.

According to the authorities, debris from a downed drone hit the headquarters of the Black Sea Fleet in the city of Sevastopol on Saturday.

The fleet's anti-aircraft defenses hit the drone, said the city's chief administrator, Mikhail Raswoschajew: "It fell on the roof and burned." There were no casualties.

The official released a picture of the destroyed roof.

Rasvozhayev blamed Ukraine for the attack.

Russia annexed Crimea in 2014.

After an explosion, a cloud of smoke rising into the sky could be seen in initially unverifiable images and videos that were distributed on social networks.

"Keep calm and stay at home for the next hour if possible," wrote the head of administration on his channel in the Telegram news service.

There is no serious destruction.

War in Ukraine: More and more attacks on Crimea - targeting Russian military facilities

First report from August 20th:

Munich – Ukraine is certain: the Crimean peninsula, which was annexed by Russia in 2014, must be reconquered in the Ukraine war.

Both the Ukrainian head of state Volodymyr Zelenskyy and his close circle have repeatedly expressed this point of view in recent days.

So far there has been little combat action on the peninsula, but now explosions are occurring more and more frequently in Russian bases and headquarters.

Contradictory statements are coming from Kyiv about who is responsible for the attacks.

However, statements by senior Ukrainian officials and experts suggest that Western weapons in Ukrainian hands, or at least Ukrainian partisans, are behind them.

According to Western assessments, Russia suffered heavy casualties in these attacks.

Attack on Saky air base - Russian Black Sea Fleet now probably in "very defensive position"

In particular, the attack on the Saky air base must have taken its toll on Vladimir Putin's troops.

"More than half" of the Russian Black Sea Fleet's military aircraft were paralyzed as a result of the attack, a Western intelligence official told British broadcaster ITV.

The Black Sea Fleet is now in a "very defensive position," it said.

The "proud fleet" has lost its credibility, according to the official.

Referring to the explosions on the peninsula, the secret service official spoke of "attacks by Ukrainians behind enemy lines".

In the same frame, the western official saw detonations in Russia's Belgorod on the Ukrainian border.

These are "legitimate targets" that do not threaten Russia's territorial integrity.

A fire broke out in an ammunition depot there on Thursday (18 August).
