Since Abu Mazen's scandalous statements at the joint press conference with the German Chancellor, Olaf Schulz, there have been increasing calls in Germany to impose sanctions on the Palestinian Authority and to freeze or cut the high amounts of aid that Germany transfers to the Authority.
In 2021 and 2022, Germany transferred 340 million euros of aid to the Authority.
