Ecuadorean authorities seized at least 3.2 tons of cocaine, two tons of which were hidden in a container loaded with bananas bound for Europe.
"The investigations made it possible to seize more than two tons of cocaine inside a container in Guayaquil, in the west of the country, that was destined for Europe," the Ecuadorean police said, according to AFP.
The police added, "The search of a container of bananas intended for export, on the other hand, made it possible to find 87 cans with a total of one ton and 312 kilograms of cocaine at another port in the coastal province of Guayas in the west of the country."
In 2021, the country seized 210 tons of drugs, which is a record amount of annual seizures in the country, the majority of which are white powder.
Since the beginning of the year, the country has seized more than 100 tons of drugs.
