Within the framework of its literary and cultural project, the Al-Adiyat Association in Lattakia commemorated the fourth anniversary of the departure of the great Arab novelist, Hanna Mina, with a celebration characterized by artistic and literary richness by combining plastic art and literary seminars, in addition to the Short Story Festival, which attracted a group of writers, intellectuals and those interested in literary affairs.

The two-day celebration at the association’s headquarters included, on its first day, the opening of a plastic art exhibition entitled “Hawaii Bahri”, which included 22 artworks by twenty artists who drew their works from the novels and writings of Mina. Writers and researchers, Dr. Wadha Younis, Zainab Al-Khair, Rola Salloum and Bassam Jeblawi.

The second day of the celebration included a story festival in which twenty writers attended from several governorates to present part of their literary production and participate in commemorating the memory of a literary stature that created a new turn in the Arabic novel by sticking its works to the sea on the one hand and to contribute to restoring the brilliance of the short story, while ensuring that participation is The largest for young storytellers, according to the association's board member and media coordinator, Bassam Jablawi.

Jablawi, who also heads the Society's Heritage Committee, pointed out in a statement to SANA reporter that the celebration comes within the framework of the society's plan to honor Syrian writers and creators who left their clear mark, not only in the Arab world, but in the world, pointing to the concern that the celebration should be rich and varied, both in terms of the plastic exhibition. Which came in harmony with Mina's works or through the Story Festival, which attracted writers from Lattakia, Damascus, Tartous and Homs.

The plastic artist Hussein Saqour, who is supervising the organization of the exhibition and is also participating in the Story Festival, explained that the exhibition attracted a selection of artists and had the participation of Syrian artists living outside Syria, who showed a lot of love and desire to be present in an exhibition celebrating the great writer from him, including the artists Kazem Khalil and Ahmed Jadoua, because most of the participating works bear significance. And symbols refer to the sea that Minh has always written about.

Plastic artist Kazem Khalil, who participated in two works of his project about the rebellious women of Mina and who came out of the sea, according to his description. He said: I am keen to come to my country to fill myself with spirit and passion, because our roots are here and the Syrian always returns to the place of his roots to consolidate them more and to extend deeper.

Donna Daoud, a graduate of the Faculty of Fine Arts, expressed the importance of participating in a celebration to honor a great literary stature among us through her novel and short stories, which was shared by the plastic artist, Fairouz Hussein, who participated in a work on the novel “The Sail and the Storm” by Mina, indicating her keenness to read the novel in depth and translate it into a work of art.

The novelist Hanna Mina, born in Latakia in 1924 and died in 2018, was awarded the Syrian Order of Merit of the Excellent Class in 2002, in addition to many awards, including the Arab Writer Award from the Egyptian Writers Union and the Cultural Council Award for Southern Italy. A number of his novels have been featured in television series and films.
