Anyone who is currently traveling through Germany in their own vehicle should have noticed the current north-south divide when filling up.

Fuel prices are highest in Bavaria, fuel is significantly cheaper in Berlin and Hamburg.

This is the result of a current ADAC evaluation of fuel prices in the 16 federal states.

The biggest differences in price are for diesel.

In Hamburg, fuel costs an average of 1.82 euros per liter.

In Bavaria, a surcharge of more than 17 cents is due.

Consumers in Bavaria pay an average of 1.99 euros.

When it comes to petrol, fuel prices differ by almost 16 cents.

A liter of Super E10 costs 1.78 euros in Bavaria, in Berlin – the cheapest state – only 1.621 euros.

The discrepancy within the north is also striking.

The second cheapest federal state for petrol is Hamburg at around 1.66 euros, the second most expensive state is the Hanseatic city of Bremen, which is only 100 kilometers away at 1.76 euros per liter.

One reason for the extreme price differences is the drought in the country, which has disrupted the supply of mineral oil and other important commodities in recent weeks.

According to the ADAC, tank customers in the south are severely affected by low water on the Rhine, which also makes it difficult to transport fuel.

For the evaluation, the traffic club evaluated the price data from more than 14,000 gas stations recorded by the market transparency agency and assigned them to the federal states.

Down course in fuel prices broken overall

Overall, fuel prices rise again two weeks before the end of the tank discount.

The temporary slide in fuel prices at Germany's gas stations seems to have ended.

According to ADAC, a liter of diesel currently costs 1.925 euros on average nationwide, which is 3.5 cents more than a week ago.

Super petrol of the E10 variety costs an average of 1.708 euros, almost unchanged in a weekly comparison, as the auto club announced.

In the previous weeks, Super had steadily become cheaper.

The tank discount ends on August 31, but according to the ADAC, fuel prices do not necessarily have to jump again after that.

The gas stations would have an interest in filling their tanks with low-taxed fuel in August, which they can still sell after September 1st.

Nevertheless, the ADAC advises looking around for cheap fueling opportunities before the end of the discount.
