Rich and Evie's Wedding (@richardmftomkinso)

Rich Futo Tomkinson, 48, and Evie Butcher-Locke, 29, fell in love over a few drinks at their local bar, but the two didn't know they had actually met before - when Evie was a baby.

The British couple met at the bar where Rich worked who served Evie a few drinks - and the two fell in love at first sight.

They met in July 2018, officially became a couple in October and moved in with each other the following February.

The two quickly fell in love but only discovered they had previously met when Evie met Rich's mother, Sarah Owen.

When Rich and Sarah met, they remembered that they actually worked on the same street in the 1990s.

Rich quickly got the clue: he first saw Evie as a baby in a stroller next to her mother.

"It was a little crazy when I realized I met Evie as a baby, but I had no idea at the time," Rich told nypost, "We just laugh about it. Age is just a number for us and you can't control who falls in love."

Many get confused and think they are father and daughter because of their age difference of almost 20 years, but they don't care.

"They used to think I was her father, but most people can see how well suited we are to each other. The 19-year age gap doesn't bother us at all," explained Rich.

Evie, a social worker, said: "It was a bit strange when we found out that Rich met me when I was a baby. I have so much fun with him and he has the biggest heart. When we're together you can't really tell there's a big age gap between us - apart from Rich's gray beard '".

Evie said she was drawn to Rich's warm personality the moment they met - and fell in love with him instantly.

Rich added: "It was really successful. I invited her to be involved in a big charity event I did so we can keep in touch ever since."

When Evie went on vacation, Rich realized he was in love when he realized how much he missed her.

Rich was heartbroken to learn that his father was diagnosed with cancer in October 2018. Sadly he passed away over Christmas.

Evie was there by Rich's side to help him through the difficult time he was going through.

All of this only helped Rich solidify what he already knew - Evie is his one.

He knew the moment of the proposal had to be special and proposed to Evie in front of a large audience of 1,000 people at their local theater during a screening of a documentary film at a charity event he put on in March 2019. "I didn't hesitate and said 'yes' straight away," Evie said.

After a little over a year of dating, the couple in love got engaged and are now expecting their first child: "We tried for a few months to get pregnant. I was worried that it might be difficult to get pregnant because of Rich's age, so we were really excited when we found out," said Evie.

The two planned to get married earlier but the wedding did not go as smoothly as they had hoped.

The wedding was supposed to take place in June 2021, but the two had to postpone the date due to the Corona epidemic.

They paid to have their wedding at Somerford Hall in Breawood, but made the difficult decision to call it off after they each lost a parent six weeks apart, Rich's mother and Evie's father.

"We had a conversation and Evie decided it wasn't going to be the wedding she wanted because she couldn't imagine walking down the aisle without her dad. There was so much sadness," Rich said.

"Before we realized the insurance would pay, our first thought was that we lost all the money and we wouldn't be able to get married. I can't tell you how stressful it was. We were devastated. It made it a lot harder to grieve because we were just worried."

The couple fought with the venue to get their money back, but were eventually reimbursed by their insurance and later married in July 2022.

"Marrying Evie was the happiest day of my life and I'm so excited to have a child with her," said Rich, "We had a wedding dance and it was so much fun. It was the best day ever. Our family and friends can see how happy we are. At first I don't think anyone expected us to last together - even us - but now we are happily married and expecting a child."

Evie believes that Rich will be an amazing father and is excited to start a family with the man of her dreams, even if people might mistake him for the grandfather.

"We've already thought about people thinking I'm the grandfather and not the father on sports days and things like that," concluded Rich, "we'll just laugh about it."
