American rapper Fetty Wap pleaded guilty on Monday August 22 in federal court to complicity in drug trafficking and remains in detention pending his sentencing to prison.

Real name William Junior Maxwell II, the 31-year-old artist, known worldwide since his 2015 hit "Trap Queen", has been sued near New York since the end of October for his alleged participation in a vast drug trafficking in Long Island.

The rapper pleaded guilty to aiding and abetting the distribution and possession of cocaine in federal court in Central Islip, in the center of the gigantic island of Long Island, east of New York City.

According to American criminal procedure, the 30-year-old was indicted by a grand jury (which participates in the investigation and the indictment) and then pleaded guilty to avoid a trial.

He thus faces a minimum sentence of five years in prison instead of risking a life sentence if he had been found guilty by a court of all the charges.

Fetty Wap has not requested bail and therefore remains in detention until his prison sentence is pronounced, according to the American federal justice.

Arrested by the FBI on October 28 in Long Island in the area of a festival where he was to perform, Fetty Wap was prosecuted for having served as a “distributor” in this drug trafficking.
