Bentley Batur Mulliner, a manifest coupe

2022-08-22T17:43:42.003Z

NEW - Announcing the aesthetic language of the next electrified Bentleys, this special coupe will be produced in 18 units by the Mulliner department.

Taking over from the series of twelve Bacalars produced by the Mulliner personalization department, the Batur coupé was presented on the sidelines of the Concours d'Elegance in Pebble Beach, California.

This new vehicle, which bears the name of a lake located at the foot of a volcano on an Indonesian island, will give birth to a limited series of 18 copies already all reserved.

Beyond its exclusive character, this model is of particular importance to Bentley.

Coming from the Crewe marque's style office headed by Andreas Mindt, the Batur foreshadows the design language of the next generation of electrified Bentleys.

Around a silhouette with a long hood, the designers sketched out expressive shapes.

If the front and rear optics are refined, the lines are stretched.

The more imposing grille is verticalized;

the sides are hollow.

In profile, the silhouette calls out with a thick rear quarter panel.

The drop in the flag and the cut-out of the rear window are reminiscent of recent English and Italian achievements.

On the comfort side, the Batur relies on a three-chamber air suspension operating, as with the Audi A8 and the Porsche Panamera, with a 48-volt system.

Under the front hood, the engineers installed the most evolved version of the biturbo W12.

It now delivers 740 horsepower and a generous torque of 1,000 Nm. The mechanics are associated with an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

The performance is not disclosed but Bentley did what it took to stop this outstanding coupé.

The carbon and silicon composite (CSiC) brake discs announce a diameter of 440 mm at the front and 410 mm at the rear.

Discs are gripped by 10-piston calipers up front, four-piston calipers at the rear.

Inside, the dashboard remains very close in design to that of a Continental GT, but the execution is different.

Each Batur will be unique and the result of the requests of the 18 customers, but the car presented in California combined black, red and orange.

The “Colors and Materials” designers chose a piano lacquer for the plank decor, while certain elements were made using 3D printing.

Announced at a price of £1.65 million excluding tax, Batur will start investing in the roads in mid-2023.
