Wolfratshausen – Together with those involved from Deutsche Bahn and the city, Deputy Mayor Günther Eibl grabbed the scissors to cut the ribbon in front of the new double-decker bike facility at Wolfratshausen station.

Environmental and climate protection manager Vivian Horngacher then gave impressive figures: 482 bicycle parking spaces are now available around the station - 440 of them are in the two-storey facility on Sauerlacher Straße, which is covered and illuminated on both sides.

Another 18 also covered and illuminated parking spaces are located behind the taxi rank.

A collective locking system that offers space for 24 bikes also ensures maximum security.

Bike+Ride: Book a place online and receive a code

Unlike the free facilities on Sauerlacher Straße and at the taxi rank, users can book a seat online at www.rad-safe.de and then receive an access code.

"To open the sliding door, the bicycle owner enters the code into the electronic control terminal," explained Horngacher.

The prices for this service are pleasingly low: a parking space in the collective locking system only costs one euro per day.

The weekly and monthly fee is 5 and 10 euros respectively.

70 euros per year are due.

The creation of the parking spaces is a result of the Bike+Ride offensive, which is based on a cooperation between the Federal Ministry for the Environment and Deutsche Bahn.

"The aim of the offensive is to create more space for bicycles at train stations in order to promote the climate-friendly combination of cycling and train travel," reported DB project participant Johannes Thiel.

In cooperation with the municipalities, an additional 100,000 bike and ride parking spaces are to be created across Germany by the end of 2022.

Less CO2 emissions through bicycle parking spaces in the city

"In Wolfratshausen, switching from the bicycle to the S-Bahn is already easier," Günther Eibl welcomed the measure.

The deputy mayor took advantage of the offer on the opening day, parked his bike and took the next train to Munich.

Environmental manager Vivian Horngacher calculates that the new bicycle parking spaces will save around 321 tons of CO2 emissions.

Wolfratshauser train station area is becoming more attractive

In addition to the modern parking facilities, further construction measures are to increase the attractiveness of the station.

Digital displays, so-called dynamic passenger information systems, go into operation at the roundabout in front of Bahnhofstrasse and on Sauerlacher Strasse.

In the future, the innovative display system will inform passengers about the actual current departure and arrival times of the S-Bahn and the bus lines operating at the station.

In addition, the Park and Ride car park on Sauerlacher Straße was resurfaced and a strip of flowers laid next to the bus station.

“Two trees will also be planted here as part of the replacement planting concept,” promises Horngacher.
