In July, the celebrated social start-up cake gossip had to file for bankruptcy: now there is sweet news for 53 seniors who have brought their baking skills to the company.

There are binding offers for a takeover.

The next few weeks will decide.

It was one of the news stories this summer that nobody in Munich wanted to hear: the bankruptcy of the celebrated start-up cake gossip.

Katharina Mayer's young company, which became known throughout Germany in the TV show "Die Höhle der Löwen".

Everyone liked the concept: Seniors bake their best cakes, so they can improve their pension together.

And the customers get sweet baked goods that taste just like in grandmother's kitchen.

Six weeks after the shock of bankruptcy in July, the turning point: As the provisional insolvency administrator Dr.

Max Liebig explained on request that, after numerous discussions, an interim success is becoming apparent: Accordingly, there are even several binding offers for a takeover.

"There is hope for cake gossip," says Liebig confidently.

The recipe for salvation: The startup, founded in 2014, is to be given a strong partner with whom it can absorb the consequences of the corona pandemic and implement new ideas.

The cooperation in the company should be preserved

That means: With the takeover, the fantastic business idea of ​​cake gossip is to be continued.

The seniors could continue to be employed on a mini-job basis in the bakery on Theresienwiese.

"It is particularly important to us to maintain this social function of the company," explains the insolvency administrator.

Because it's not just about the sugar pastry, but cake gossip is much more.

The company gave the seniors a so-called meaningful job where they could make contacts.

In view of the negotiations to date, Liebig explains: "I am currently very confident that a final restructuring success can be announced in the next few weeks."

In the "Lion's Den" there was 100,000 euros

Wonderful news after the cake gossip had to announce the temporary end at the end of July.

A "difficult and painful step" that the team had to explain on the Instagram internet platform at the time.

And a turning point in the company's history that came as a surprise.

Cake gossip was already looking for investors.

Actually, the makers wanted to start in the 600 square meter premises on Theresienwiese: An adventure bakery with an adjoining café was planned.

Mayer solicited and received support on the crowdinvesting platform "Conda.de".

According to Conda, 157 investors actually provided 234,000 euros.

The decision will follow in the coming weeks

Money that ultimately did not save the company from bankruptcy.

The tense economic situation and the consequences of the Corona crisis hit cake gossip hard.

As Mayer explained to Merkur, her start-up had a total turnover of 800,000 euros in 2021.

Carsten Maschmeyer spoke of a "heart investment" on the TV show Höhle der Löwen when he promised cake gossip 100,000 euros.

"The Grandmas and the Vision" had convinced the smart Munich entrepreneur in 2018.
