The Eiswunder advocates continue to hope that the citizens, especially children and young people, will be able to skate again this winter at the Feodor-Lynen-Gymnasium.

The Planegger Holiday Committee postponed the fundamental decision on the operation of the artificial ice surface in 2022/23 with a vote of 6:3.

- In October, the municipal council wants to show its colors.

It is clear that the ice miracle will either be installed in the conventional form or not at all.

It is then too late to rent a synthetic ice rink.

Two camps emerged from the meeting of the holiday committee.

Florian Großelfinger (CSU) campaigned for the ice miracle to be carried out - despite the energy crisis caused by the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine.

“The young people mostly sit at home with their mobile phones, stricken by the corona virus.

The ice miracle is the best offer we can make her in winter." Grosselfinger continues: "If we save energy in the community, why start with an issue that is important for children and young people?

We could also close the Kupferhaus for half a year.”

8798 young people under 15 years of age

Großelfinger received support from Peter von Schall-Riaucour (PP&M): “It takes a lot of courage to make the decision to continue the ice miracle.

If we have the courage, we think of the majority of the citizens.” Von Schall-Riaucour referred to figures from the ice wonder operator Klaus Wüst: Last season, 3,760 adults and 8,798 young people under the age of 15 were counted at the checkout.

This does not include the school classes, for which ice skating is free.

He also suggested saving energy elsewhere, for example with the Christmas lights.

Mayor Hermann Nafziger (CSU) and his deputies Judith Grimme (Greens) and Christine Hallinger (SPD) took the opposite position.

Nafziger said: "I'm having trouble running the ice rink this year as it has been.

This winter will not be good for any of us.” The ice wonder is fed by the community's combined heat and power plant, a natural gas-powered system in the basement of the town hall.

Nafziger: "Our electricity is made with gas." The mayor emphasized: "I don't care about the costs.

It's about showing solidarity and saving energy.”

Susanne Trenkle (FDP) brought an ice age shortened to eight instead of 13 weeks like last winter into play.

She said: "I don't want to decide in August whether we will cancel the ice miracle completely and would push the decision back in the interests of the children." The majority agreed, against Nafziger, Grimme and Hallinger.
