Against the background of the investigation in Israel today:
The Civil Administration and Border Guard soldiers yesterday (Monday) destroyed 11 structures that were erected illegally in the area of the archaeological site "Hasmonean Palaces" in Jericho.
The "Palaces of the Hasmoneans and King Herod" site is one of the most important archaeological sites found from the Second Temple period.
The site began as an agricultural estate in the days of Yohanan Hyrcanus I, his successors and King Herod, built magnificent palaces on the site that were used by them during the winter.
In fact, the site's history tells the story of the entire Hasmonean family.

As published in Israel Hayom, the enforcement efforts of ancient sites began in Yosh. As part of a tour conducted in the area by the head of the Civil Administration, Lt. Col. Fars Atila, the enforcement effort in the area was agreed upon as part of the campaign on areas C, including the preservation of the archaeological sites.
