Erlangen-Höchstadt – An accident on the Greitspitze in Ischgl claimed a life at the weekend.
A 77-year-old from Erlangen-Höchstadt was hiking in Austria with a companion (63).
Around noon, the two reached the summit of the Greitspitze.
According to the Tyrolean police, the man photographed the 63-year-old Spaniard next to the summit cross with his cell phone.
Then he apparently wanted to take a photo from further back – that was his undoing.

The man took a few steps backwards to take the picture.
"He obviously overlooked the fact that he was already in the immediate vicinity of the abyss," the police said.
He lost his balance, fell backwards over a 60 meter high, partly vertical rock face and suffered fatal injuries.
A witness who was also at the summit set the rescue chain in motion.
The deceased was rescued by the police helicopter using a rope and then brought down into the valley by the mountain rescue service.
