Suspected of having assaulted a young woman last weekend in Nanterre, a man whose exact age is unknown was indicted for rape, sexual assault and robbery before being placed on Monday, in pre-trial detention.
The arrest of the respondent is to the credit of five police officers assigned to police stations in Hauts-de-Seine and neighboring departments.
The five men, off duty, met on Saturday in the park on Chemin de l'île where they had agreed to meet for an afternoon of sports activities.
It was there, around 6:50 p.m., that they heard the cries of a young woman whose cell phone had just been snatched away.
Four officials then set off in pursuit of the suspect while their colleague remained with the victim.
The suspect claims to have been born in 2008
To the policeman who remained by her side, the 22-year-old young woman confided that she had been followed for part of the afternoon by the individual whose advances she refused.
She also explained that she was tackled to the ground by the suspect who would have caressed her chest and touched her private parts before stealing her smartphone.
Arrested in possession of the iPhone stolen at Avenue Hoche as he tried to flee, the suspect was taken into custody at the Nanterre police station.
To investigators, the latter first claimed to be a minor, claiming to have been born in 2008. A claim that did not stand up to the controversial bone tests used on young migrants to determine their age.
The man, who did not present guarantees of sufficient representation according to the Nanterre prosecution, was deemed old enough to be placed in pre-trial detention.
