A senior American official revealed this morning (Tuesday) to the American news agency "Reuters" that Iran has removed some of its main demands as part of the negotiations on the nuclear agreement.
The source also revealed that Washington intends to soon submit its response to Iran's draft proposal for a new nuclear agreement that will allow the United States to return to the 2015 nuclear agreement, which aims to prevent Iran's ability to acquire nuclear weapons.
The source stated, under conditions of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the issue, that despite the Iranian pressure that Washington was the one that made far-reaching concessions, it was Tehran that removed key issues from its list of demands, but did not specify which issues were involved.
"Basically, they just came to us this week and removed the main requirements that would delay the deal," the source told the news agency.
"We think that they have finally crossed the Rubicon towards the possibility of returning to the agreement under conditions that President Biden can accept. If we are closer to signing the agreement today, it is because Iran has moved its position. They have given up issues that they insisted on from the beginning of the talks," said the official.
"We think they have finally crossed the Rubicon and moved towards possibly getting back into the deal on terms that President Biden can accept," the official added.
"If we are closer today, it's because Iran has moved. They conceded on issues that they have been holding onto from the beginning."
