A special motif adorns the anniversary mug for the 80th Erding Autumn Festival.

It comes from a postcard from 1904. There are 200 jugs.

Erding – "Finally, finally we have an Autumn Festival again." Mayor Max Gotz is delighted to note that the ten-day Autumn Festival begins this Friday.

After a forced break of two years, it is celebrating its 80th anniversary.

There is also a very special autumn festival mug.

He was presented at City Hall on Tuesday.

The motif on the anniversary mug comes from a colored postcard.

It was published in 1904 as part of the agricultural district festival with trade exhibition in Erding.

“That was the last folk festival before the First World War.

After 1904, the next folk festival took place in 1928 to celebrate the city's 700th anniversary," explained Harald Krause, director of the Erding Museum, from whose photo archive the postcard comes.

The artist of the motif is not known.

You can see the moment when the procession with the floats pulls into the festival grounds.

It is more than twice the size of today's fairground and is a little further south - where Anton-Bruckner-Straße, the TSV stadium and the swimming pool are now located.

In addition to beer stalls, carousels, music pavilion and wine bar, the Glückshafen can be seen, which the BRK still operates at the autumn festival.

In 1904, by selling lots, it collected money “in favor of the local poor care and the Josephianstalt”, as the hospital was then called.

North of the cemetery wall of St. Paul there was also a hall for the agricultural exhibition.

The craft presented itself in the city center in the Schrannenhalle and in the town hall.

And: A brilliant firework display was set off in the stadium.

That will no longer be the case this year.

The city and the showmen have decided to offer a large laser show for the first time on the last Sunday of the Autumn Festival, September 4th, as was seen in the city center at the turn of the year 2019/20.

There was also a laser show at the Dorfen folk festival this year (we reported), but in the festival hall.

Like today, the folk festival in 1904 also attracted many visitors from the surrounding area.

At that time they even came from Munich – with special trains of the Erding-Schwaben local railway, as Krause says can be read in old newspapers.

Incidentally, at that time the Fischer's Stiftungsbrauerei and the Greisselbrauerei served beer.

There were also 1.13 hectoliters of wine, as can be seen from old records by Karl Empl.

Printing expert Thorsten Neidlein (printED) digitized and edited the postcard motif before it could be printed, attached to the mug and fired in the oven.

Mayor Gotz is very pleased with the enthusiasm that the people of Erding share with many citizens in the surrounding communities for the autumn festival.

The previous folk festivals in the region have shown "that people celebrate in an exceptionally happy and peaceful way and are hungry for such events".

Gotz is a bit nervous before the first big tapping after a two-year break.

Has he practiced?

"I just tapped into it the other day and I think it should work - if the tool fits," he replies.

It usually takes three hits before the first batch of beer is tapped.

But Gotz is not the only one who remembers 2017 well, when there were nine strokes.

“But the hammer was too small.

I got out what's possible." And he also knows: "If something goes wrong, it's not that bad.

It's talked about more than when things go well.” Whatever the outcome of the tapping, by the time the three cannon shots are heard afterwards, the whole town will know that the Autumn Festival has begun.

The anniversary mug costs 15 euros and will be on sale at the autumn festival from Friday, August 26 (at the stand near the entrance to the ice rink).

There are 200 pieces.
