Abergil's friend who fled to Morocco: this is the criminal who will end the affair that has been going on for almost 20 years

The criminal Golan Avitan has been serving a prison sentence in Morocco since 2019, after he entered the country with a fake passport when he escaped from the Israeli authorities during the investigation of the 512 case. This, while the head of the criminal organization Yitzhak Abergil and other criminals were sent to long prison terms due to their involvement in the criminal attack on Yehuda Halevi Street in 2003.

Morocco has become a safe haven for Israeli criminals.

But recently, following the peace agreements that were forged and the visit of Police Commissioner Kobi Shabtai, which led to the tightening of relations and coordination between the law enforcement systems in the countries, the destination became less attractive.

According to the indictment, Avitan, a 54-year-old resident of Ashdod, is a member of Abergil's organization and was One of the organizers of the assassination attempts of the criminal Zeev Rosenstein, by providing the remote controls that activated the explosive devices remotely in the two assassination attempts, causing the death of three civilians and dozens of injuries. In 2019, he was arrested, released on bail of 12 million shekels, and not long after fled to Morocco, where Hiding until his arrest by the local police.

Last night, at the end of his three-year prison term, Avitan was deported from Morocco, straight from his prison cell and put on a plane to Israel, where he was arrested by Lahav 433 police officers and upon landing was brought to the police for questioning.

"With the means we have and the working relationships forged with countries around the world, we will reach everyone in the end," says a police official about Avitan's arrest.

"It's a matter of precise timing, if it's Golan Avitan and if it's Shay Avital, there is extensive activity, most of it behind the scenes, and in the end you see the results with the arrest of such and such suspects in these countries."

In the meantime, the Tel Aviv District Attorney's Office is also pulling out binders and preparing for the retrial of one of the "stars" of the 512 case. The prosecution team in the case, headed by lawyer Nissim Marom, may return to the courtroom and conduct the prosecution against the last of the defendants in the case, after the proceedings in his case were frozen due to his escape to Morocco

The conviction of the others involved in the case, and the hearing of the dozens of testimonies will probably speed up the proceedings in Avitan's case in court, and will ease the prosecution in the proceedings that will resume in the coming months in the Tel Aviv District Court.
