Fraud on WhatsApp: Senior (81) brought a four-digit sum

With a perfidious scam, unknown people tricked an 81-year-old from Geretsried.
The police are investigating - and give WhatsApp users a tip.
Geretsried – Despite all the warnings, a senior citizen has again become the victim of con artists.
According to the Geretsried police, the incident happened on August 9th.
On that day, an 81-year-old woman from Geretsried received a message via WhatsApp in which a previously unknown perpetrator posed as the grandson of the old lady.

He suggested that he urgently needed money to buy a new cell phone and a laptop.
The senior citizen initially had no doubts about the authenticity of the message and transferred 2,200 euros to the specified account of an Internet bank.
Only later did it emerge that the message did not come from her grandson.

Police advise caution on WhatsApp: “Do not transfer money”
In this context, the police once again urgently warn of the scam via WhatsApp: “You should always doubt the authenticity of such messages and under no circumstances transfer money unless you are absolutely sure that the alleged victim is actually one of yours relatives.”
