Education Minister Yifat Shasha-Biton today (Wednesday) referred to the crisis in the negotiations between the Teachers' Union and the Ministry of Finance, and said that the Ministry of Finance's proposal is "a smokescreen for an entire program in which there is no horizon for teachers who enter the system." She also said that she will make efforts so that the school year will open as a series with a good salary agreement for teachers. She said these things at the De Marker education conference being held in Kiryat Ono.

"You are captive to the magic number '9,000 shekels,'" said Shasha-Biton, referring to the salary offered by the Ministry of Finance for beginning teachers. "It sounds nice, but it A smoke screen for an entire program, where there is no horizon for the teachers who enter the system.

She also claimed that the Histadrut brought a proposal that bridges the gaps between the Treasury and the teachers "already a month and a half ago".

In addition, she said that the office is doing "everything so that the school year opens, but not only opens, but with a good salary agreement, so that we can begin to stabilize the system and build it for years to come."

"It is clear to all of us that there will be studies. We will do everything for it to open like I fought last year for it to open."

The negotiations between the Ministry of Finance and the Teachers' Union, which continued yesterday, were not a breakthrough, nine days before the start of the school year.

In the political system, there is a lot of criticism of Finance Minister Avigdor Lieberman, regarding his conduct in this crisis.

Last week, Prime Minister Yair Lapid visited Lieberman, when he commented that he "doesn't like the way veteran teachers are talked about."

In response, Lieberman replied that he was "not familiar with the details" since, according to the Ministry of Finance's proposal, all teachers will benefit from a salary increase.

The chairman of Meretz, Nitzan Horowitz, also joined yesterday in criticizing the Minister of Finance. "National policy is not under the authority of Treasury officials, but under the authority of the government," he said. He does not determine how the money will be distributed. He is only in charge of the execution, and according to the huge surpluses he has accumulated, he does not excel in this either," he asserted.
