Two minors critically injured in a fire in Badalona when jumping from a fifth floor

Two minor brothers are in critical condition and a third family member has been injured, although less seriously, due to the fire that broke out this Wednesday on a fifth floor located at number 23-25 ​​Quevedo street in Badalona ( Barcelona).

The minors, aged 13 and 15, were at home, along with their 18-year-old cousin, who also resides in the building, when the fire started shortly after nine in the morning for reasons that are being investigated.

The teens' mother was working at the time, away from home.

The brothers were caught in the flames and jumped from the fifth floor shortly before the arrival of firefighters.

The emergency services treated them after being in a critical condition and they were transferred to the Germans Trias i Pujol hospitals in Badalona and Vall d'Hebron in Barcelona.

His prognosis is very serious, according to municipal sources.

The other relative was rescued and has been transferred to the Badalona Municipal Hospital due to smoke inhalation and his prognosis is, "for the moment", more favorable.

The apartment was owned by the family and the mayor of the city, Ruben Guijarro, explained that the family had been "accompanied" by social services in a timely manner, but that their situation was that of "working people".

As reported by the Fire Department, the fire has been quickly controlled and there has been no danger of spreading to other floors.

“The first vehicle has seen flames coming out of the window.

The extinction has been rapid, but the fire has been very intense.

The structure of the building is in perfect condition and the residents will be able to return to their homes”, explained the regional head of the Generalitat Fire Department.

Eight crews have worked to extinguish the fire.

The mayor of Badalona, ​​Rubén Guijarro, has traveled to the area, who through his Twitter account has assured that the City Council has made all municipal services available to the affected family and neighbors.

The SEM has activated 10 ground units, a team of psychologists and a joint team of SEM and firefighters.

Units of the Mossos and the Badalona Urban Guard also work.
