This is the first direct reference by the Commander-in-Chief of the US Army to the latest escalation in Syria, during which American soldiers were injured and forces affiliated with the Revolutionary Guards were killed

After two days of serious incidents between the US and pro-Iranian militias in Syria, President Joe Biden sent an update letter to the leaders of the Senate and the House of Representatives in Congress to make it clear that he will continue as necessary in efforts to "hurt, disrupt and deter" Iran in its attempts to harm the US. B.

Biden wrote in his letter: "I ordered an attack on August 23 against facilities identified with the Revolutionary Guards to protect our people and prevent the series of attacks on the United States and our partners, and to deter the Islamic Republic and the militias it supports.

The US stands ready to act again as needed to respond to threats and attacks."

According to him, the order to attack the Revolutionary Guards envoys came against the background of attacks they carried out on August 15, and even earlier "during the six months preceding that on facilities of American forces in Syria and Iraq that endangered the lives of the members of the coalition to fight ISIS".

He hinted in the letter that the reality on the ground and the willingness to disrupt Iran's activities in Syria will be conducted in a channel parallel to the diplomatic talks to revive the nuclear agreement which have apparently reached the last line.

"I ordered this activity as part of my responsibility to protect US citizens both abroad and at home, and to advance the interests of national security protection and foreign policy, as part of my constitutional authority as commander in chief," Biden emphasized.

As you may recall, this week the United States submitted to Iran its response to its latest proposals regarding the draft nuclear agreement. This, after reports emerged that the Europeans had formulated a compromise according to which the agreement would not officially require the closure of the investigation files surrounding Iran's suspicious activity at undeclared sites, including in any concerning unexplained uranium remnants. However, this compromise does not appear to be acceptable to the US, and Iran has made it clear that any new agreement will not enter into force until these files, which are managed exclusively by the International Atomic Energy Agency without the influence of major powers, are closed.
