Gmund – Deutsche Telekom wants to invest in fast internet in Gmund.

Around 2,300 households and businesses on Lake Tegernsee could benefit from the expansion.

The go-ahead for fast internet using fiber optics from the end of 2027 has been given in Gmund.

Around 2,300 households and businesses in numerous local areas will then be able to benefit from the expansion.

Mayor Alfons Besel and Norbert Kreier, regional manager at Deutsche Telekom, together with Frank Dentgen, key account manager at Deutsche Telekom Technik GmbH, signed the joint declaration of intent for the start of construction from 2026.

“Today, fiber optics is part of the basic digital supply.

As natural as the power connection is, the fiber optic connection is just as important," says Mayor Alfons Besel, explaining the partnership with Telekom.

“The municipality of Gmund am Tegernsee should remain an attractive location for companies so that jobs can be secured, but a high-performance internet is also essential for home office and home schooling.

We can support this with further fiber optic expansion in our community.”

The new network will be so powerful that working and learning at home, video conferencing, surfing and streaming will be possible at the same time.

The maximum download speed is 1 gigabit per second.

When uploading, it is 200 megabits per second.

Companies in particular can use it to react flexibly to the constantly growing digital requirements, according to a statement from the municipality.

“High speeds on your own connection are important.

After all, everything should run stably in the WLAN at home and at work,” says qualified engineer Norbert Kreier.

"In order to be able to use WLAN optimally, the cabling in the house should be planned from the beginning.

If necessary, we are also happy to support you in this.”

Owners from Gmund can already get more information about the fiber optic house connection from Telekom on 0800/3301903 and on the Internet at www.telekom.de/bauherren.
